To Xruso Staxu

Just across the street from The Electra Mitropoleos Hotel is this small shop that almost always has a line of people waiting outside. Many people come here for the good coffee but for people "in the know" this is the place in Athens to buy a really good bougatsa: think flaky purse filled with sweet cream, or savory cheese or meat. Part of the attraction is watching the staff cut the sweet bougatsa into 6 pieces and stuffing it into a cute little box before covering it with powdered sugar and cinnamon. I dare you not to eat every delicious piece. The name translates into The Gold Wheat and their other baked goods - cheese, spinach, chicken, leek pies are just filled to the brim and a treat to eat. Unless you have the metabolism of a 10 year old this is not a place to eat every day but definitely a place to stop in your street food travels in Athens.
