To Triantafyllou tis Nostimias - Lekka 22, Athens 10562

Many people lament that the traditional taverns of old that filled Athens and other cities around the country have vanished but I am here to tell you it's not true. Enter To Triantafyllou (the rose). This place is cinematic. Well-healed Athenian diners packed in a rabbit warren of rooms that stretch through an old Athenian arcade. The service can be efficient or spotty and sometimes they run out of food but the atmosphere is electric and the food is quality delicious - dolamdes, mackerel, shrimp saganaki, meatballs, barbounia, fava, spicy feta in the oven. You get the picture. Come with your parea (group of friends) and order a bunch of dishes. Ask your waiter or waitress what is particularly good that day.

Triantafyllou is no thrills, so you'll have to settle for the house wine, which I adore, or an ouzo. And you can make a reservation which makes this place very attractive on the holidays and in the summer months.

Note:  It closes at 9pm, and sometimes earlier, so give a ring before you show up.
