Can one have a crush on a wine bar because I have been completely smitten with Heteroclito since the day it opened in 2012. Before I wax one about how much I love the wine, food and philosophy behind this chic little wine bar and it's fantastic name I just need to give a shout out to the way it sits on the street. It is literally at the crossroads of 4 important streets in the historic center of Athens, Ermou, Mitropoleos, Fokionos and Petrakis. And it commands the corner where it lives, glass windows, a fun neon sign, cozy interior space and outdoors seating nestled up against the building and across the street at Hondos Department Store. Everything about this place screams Europe, urban chic and welcome to adulthood. Sitting outside on what I like to call the runway, drinking a delicious Greek varietal and watching the world go by is one of my most favorite things to do in Athens. Madeline the owner, has created something special here.

There are over 200 Greek labels on the list here and many of them curated from vintners with an emphasis on natural wines. And for around 6 euros one can drink an excellent wine in this wonderful establishment, totally approachable even for people on a budget.

And if you want to splurge pair your wine with one of their excellent charcuterie plates.

Dog friendly, people friendly, wine friendly. My kind of place.
