Harry's Kitchen

If you blink you might miss it. And don't think you'll be getting anything after 3 pm. But for a city that loves its pitas (pies) Harry's little tiny Kitchen packs a powerful punch. Just off Syntagma Square on a quiet little pedestrianized street Harry Satiridis and his wife Yiouli serve up some of the best savory pies in Athens. And when I'm fasting for the holidays I love to get their mushroom pita, packed with sauteed musrooms and other veggies, so satisfying and delicious. What is so absolutely classically Athenian about this place is the size of it, Harry and Yiouli produce all this goodness in a space that wouldn't be legal in most cities. The secret to their success lies in their hand rolled phyllo dough that is light, airy and not greasy. Sometimes I need to remind myself that it is phyllo.
