
Epirus (Η Ηπειρος)
Tucked in a back corner of Athens’ historic @varvakeios_fishmarket_athens is an unassuming restaurant that has been serving up delicious home cooked dishes for 128 years. Η Ήπειρος epirus_tavern is a true classic.
Known for its tripe, fish and chicken soups, delicious veggie and meat dishes the place is packed all day. You choose your meal from the vetrina (window) and then take a seat. Today I watched an elegantly dressed Greek yiayia eat a whole grilled fish with her hands. My kind of gusto!
I have been eating chicken soup here since I was a broke student in 1986 on my semester abroad and today I did the same. Just as good as it was 40 years ago!
